Nic plays Love Story | I often wonder why so many of us who have played musical instruments as children no longer play when we grow up. Week after week during trumpet lessons with Jimmy Maxwell at Colin Studios I heard such marvelous piano playing and hearty laughter from the room next door that one day I couldn't stand it any longer. I knocked on the door determined to study whatever it was that the gentleman inside taught, and so began my relationship with master jazz pianist Nicholas 'Rod' Ridriguez. His story can and will be told elsewhere - what I wish to say here is that Nic opened for me the door to piano playing, and the keys to harmony and composition. Throughout the years I have sat at the piano countless times playing the songs that I love with melodies and harmonies that are both pleasing and sophisticated.
